Counselling Practicum Student
Shawn is a Metis who is currently a Master of Counselling Psychology student. He holds a Bachelor of Professional Communications in addition to a Master’s Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management, both from Royal Roads University.
Shawn is a proponent of positive psychology and believes that every individual is the architect and expert of their own lives. Having said that he can appreciate that it may not always feel that way and understands first-hand that life can present overwhelming challenges all along the way. He commends those who have the courage, especially when feeling vulnerable or incapable, to recognize that there is value in seeking help. He takes a person-centered approach to therapy that also utilizes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and mindfulness. Shawn seeks to establish and create trust and a feeling of safety with his clients through employing empathy, genuineness, reassurance as well as unconditional positive regard to every unique relationship. Being human is incredibly complex and his intentions are to help clients work through their challenges in a holistic and meaningful way through meeting them where they are at and working from there.
